In continuation of a nearly-month-long tradition, we are making this offer as a way of celebrating birthdays of well-known people. Today’s celebrations are a bit different since the birthday boys are better known by their terrific nicknames than their given names.
More specifically, today is the 49th birthday of Darius Carlos Rucker and the 46th of Brian Patrick Carroll. Leon Lamar Wagner, who died in 2004, was born on this date 81 years ago.
You probably already know that Rucker is “Hootie” of “Hootie and the Blowfish” fame. Carroll is the rock guitarist with the stage name “Buckethead.” And Wagner—better known as “Daddy Wags”—was a slugging and horrific-fielding outfielder for four major league baseball teams in the 1950s and ‘60s.
I can’t think of a more appropriate way of using the Wilsons’ story to promote businesses’ efforts to achieve higher levels of employee engagement than by paying homage to: 1) the front man for the rock band the name of which was responsible for the outbreak of Beavis-and-Butthead-grade grunts and sniggers that plagued middle school classrooms during the ‘80s and ‘90s; 2) a man who wears a KFC bucket on his head onstage; and 3) a man who, after going into the clothing business following his playing days, had the advertising slogan: “Get your glad rags from Daddy Wags!”
